QLD motorcycle test riding in a group practice questions
All 4 original practice questions on this topic, with the correct answer marked and the reason under each one.
Where these questions come from
Original practice questions written for this site. Not the official question bank. They were written against the current Queensland road rules for riders, with the rule cited under every answer. Department of Transport and Main Roads does not publish a motorcycle question bank, so nothing on this page is the wording you will meet in the sitting.
Questions and pass mark: Being verified. No question count or pass mark for the rider knowledge test in Queensland has been confirmed against Department of Transport and Main Roads, so this page does not state one.
Question 1
In a staggered group formation, what spacing works well?
That spacing keeps a full braking gap to the rider in your own wheel track while the group stays compact enough to move as one. Increase it in rain, dust or poor light.

Question 2
The group turns onto a narrow winding road. What should the formation become?
Corners need the whole lane. Staggered formation on a winding road forces riders onto lines they would not choose and leaves no escape room.

Question 3
A group is planning a long ride. What is a sensible arrangement so nobody gets lost or pressured?
A group that plans stops and marks corners never has to ride hard to catch up. The rider at the back should be someone experienced who knows the route.

Question 4
The group is overtaking a slow vehicle on a country road. How should it be done?
The rider at the back cannot see what the leader could see. Group overtakes go wrong when someone commits on trust. Each rider judges their own overtake and regroups later.

Reading them is the easy half
We have not checked the format of the rider knowledge test in Queensland against Department of Transport and Main Roads, so the runs here score the questions they ask and claim no pass mark. Answering under pressure is still a different thing from reading the list.
