Privacy

Aussie Learner is a static site. Every page you can reach was written out as a file ahead of time and is served as a file. There is no application server, no database, no account system, no login, no password and no user record. Nothing you do here is submitted to us, because there is nothing on our side to submit it to.

That is the whole reason there is no contact form on the contact page. A form needs somewhere to post to, and this site has nowhere.

This is browser localStorage. It is not a cookie, it is never attached to a request, and it is not readable by us or by any other site. It stays on the one device and in the one browser that wrote it, so your progress does not follow you to your phone, and there is no way for anybody here to look at it.

To clear it, clear site data for this site in your browser settings, or use a private window and close it. Clearing it deletes your review deck and your saved scores, which is the only thing you lose. Nothing else about you was recorded anywhere.

As of 26 September 2026, this site runs Google Analytics 4, measurement id G-LE1KX5XWNC, and Microsoft Clarity. Google Analytics counts which pages are read and roughly where readers are, so there is some basis for deciding what to write next. Clarity shows how pages are used, such as where readers click and how far they scroll, so a confusing page can be fixed. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. No tag manager is used.

The site is run from the United Kingdom, so UK rules on cookies apply to every visitor, wherever you are. On your first visit you see a banner, and no analytics cookie is set until you accept. Reject all is on the first screen and is as easy as accepting. Until you accept, or after you reject, both tools still measure visits without cookies: Google Analytics sends anonymous pings through a setting called Consent Mode, and Clarity records each page view as a separate anonymous session that is not linked to your other visits.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie and privacy choices at the bottom of every page. Switching analytics off, or choosing Reject all, stops the cookies, and measurement goes back to the anonymous, cookie free mode described above. No feature on this site reads these cookies, so switching them off costs you nothing, and your practice progress is stored separately in your own browser as described above. The typefaces are built into the site at build time rather than fetched from a font service.

Advertising. This site plans to show ads served by Google AdSense once approved. Google and other third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on those visits. Personalised advertising cookies will be used only if you consent through the cookie banner. You can turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services in its partner sites policy.

The files are served by a web server, and like every web server it writes an access log: the address requested, the time, the response code, your browser user agent string and your IP address. That is standard operational logging, kept to run and secure the server, and it is not joined to anything, not profiled and not passed to anybody.

The address on the contact page is an ordinary mailbox. If you write in, your message and your address sit in that mailbox so the reply can be written and the correction can be traced later. Nothing you send is added to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list, and nothing is sold or passed on. Ask for your message to be deleted and it will be.

Every figure here names its source and most of them link to it. Following one of those links takes you to a licensing agency, a statistics agency or another organisation entirely, and what they collect is covered by their own privacy notice rather than this one.

Analytics cookies are used only with your consent, which is the legal basis for them, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through Cookie and privacy choices at the bottom of every page. Anonymous measurement made without cookies, server logs and replies to email rely on legitimate interests: measuring how the site is used without identifying anyone, keeping it running and secure, and answering what you send.

Analytics data goes to Google LLC, for Google Analytics, and Microsoft Corporation, for Clarity. Once advertising begins, Google AdSense (Google LLC / Google Ireland) will also receive data to serve ads. Google LLC and Microsoft Corporation are based in the United States and process data there, so it leaves Australia, the UK or Europe. Both take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, which is the safeguard for data sent from the UK and Europe. The server holding the site is run by a hosting company, which stores the access logs described above.

Google Analytics keeps this data for no longer than 14 months, the longest period a standard property allows. Microsoft keeps Clarity data for the periods it sets out for Clarity. Server access logs are rotated and deleted automatically, and none is kept longer than 90 days. Email stays in the mailbox only as long as it is needed to reply and to trace a correction, and is deleted sooner if you ask.

Wherever you are, you can ask what information about you this site holds, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, by writing to the address above. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland you also have rights to object, to restrict processing and to data portability, and you can complain to your data protection authority, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. In Australia, privacy complaints are handled by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Analytics data is held by Google and Microsoft under identifiers that are not linked to your name, so the quickest way to stop it is to switch analytics off in Cookie and privacy choices.

This site is aimed at anybody studying for a learner knowledge test, which in most of Australia means people from about 15 onwards. It does not ask for a name, an age, an address or any other personal detail from anyone, of any age, at any point.

Analytics works the same for every visitor and records no name and no age, and no analytics cookie is set until the visitor accepts.
