Who writes this

One person builds and maintains the site. There is no editorial team behind it and no claim of one.

Builds and maintains driving test practice and statistics sites

This site is built and run by Vikas Dulgunde, a software engineer who makes driving test practice and statistics sites. He also runs passrates.uk, which covers the United Kingdom theory test and publishes pass rate data for individual test centres. This Australian site takes the same approach across the eight state and territory licensing systems: practice you can use without an account, and numbers that carry the source they came from.

He is not a driving instructor, an examiner or a road safety professional, and he does not present himself as one. What he does is read the official material closely, work with the data agencies publish, and file freedom of information requests where they do not. Every figure names its source and the date it was checked, every page shows when it was last reviewed, and anything not confirmed against an agency or an open dataset is marked as being verified rather than filled in with a guess. The official handbooks and courses each agency publishes are the authority on the rules. This site is built to sit alongside them, not to replace them.

Where the questions come from

Two different sources, and the difference is stated on every surface that uses them.

New South Wales: the real published bank

Transport for NSW publishes the Driver Knowledge Test question bank for cars as a public document under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, CC BY 4.0. Those are the actual questions, parsed from the current file on the current government domain rather than copied from another site, and they are not modified beyond formatting for the screen. Questions in the bank that depend on a picture we have not drawn are held out of every draw rather than shown without their artwork.

Every other state and territory: original questions

No other agency publishes its bank. The questions for Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory are original practice questions written for this site against the current road rules, with the rule cited on every answer. They are not the official questions, they are not a leaked copy of them, and every page that uses them says so.

The road sign artwork

All 54 signs in the sign library are drawn from scratch as inline artwork. Sign shapes and colours are set by the Australian road rules and are plain facts, but the proportions and symbols are our own simplified rendering. Nothing is traced from an official artwork file, a photograph or another website. The sign questions that use them are original questions written here as well.

The photographs

Every photograph on this site was made by an AI image model. They are invented scenes, chosen because they look like the country these tests are taken in. Not one of them is a photograph of a specific test centre, a specific road, a real vehicle or a real person, so please do not use one to work out what a particular centre or test route looks like. They sit around the teaching content and never inside it: the signs above and the scenario diagrams in the guides stay hand drawn artwork, because a generated picture of a give way sign would be wrong in ways a learner has no way of checking.

How a figure gets onto a page

The rule is simple: name the source and the date, or do not print the number.

Rules, fees and pass marks come from the agencyEach state and territory sets its own, so each figure carries the name of the agency that publishes it and the date it was checked.

Statistics come from published data or a request for itWhere an agency publishes outcomes, the page names the dataset. Where it does not, the gap is left open or a freedom of information request is filed, and the page says which.

Unconfirmed facts are marked, not guessedAnything not confirmed against an agency or an open dataset is shown as being verified. It is never filled in with a number borrowed from another site.

Every page carries a review dateLicensing rules change. The date tells you how old the check is, which a page without one cannot.

What this site does not claim

The things a driving test site usually asserts, and why none of them appear here.

No usage numbers. This site is new and has no traffic worth reporting, so there are no counts of tests taken and no user totals anywhere on it.
No testimonials and no ratings, because there are no users yet to give them.
No pass rate of our own. Nobody can measure whether practising here changed an outcome, so no page says it did.
No claim that these questions are the official test outside New South Wales, where they genuinely are the published bank.
No criticism of the official handbooks and courses. They are the material you are tested on and they remain the authority. This site is built to sit alongside them.

What is still unverified

Named openly rather than quietly filled in, because a plausible wrong number is worse than a gap.

Pass marks for Tasmania and Northern Territory are not stated anywhere on this site. Third party sites publish figures for them that contradict each other, and neither number has been confirmed against the agency, so no page here prints one. The same applies to per centre outcome data outside the jurisdictions that publish it: where the data has been requested and not yet received, the page says so.

If you find something here that is out of date or wrong, report it. The address is on the contact page, a correction with an agency source behind it is read before anything else, and a confirmed one is fixed and redated. Until then, treat the agency page as the authority wherever it disagrees with this site.

One thing worth repeating

Passing the knowledge test is the start of learning to drive, not the proof of it. The supervised hours, the courses and the handbooks your agency publishes are what make the difference on the road. This site is a way to practise the questions for free while you do the rest of it.
