Terms of use

Free study material, offered as it is. Not official, not a replacement for the handbook, and not a promise about your test.

It is free, and there is nothing to sign up to

Everything on Aussie Learner is free to use. There is no account, no subscription, no payment and no question held back for a paid tier. Using the site is not a contract with anybody, and you can stop at any time by closing the tab.

It is not official

This is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any licensing or road authority in Australia. That includes Transport for NSW and Service NSW, VicRoads, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Department of Transport, Service SA, Service Tasmania, Northern Territory Government and ACT Government. Nothing on this site is issued, approved or checked by any of them.

It does not replace the handbook or the course

Your licensing agency publishes the handbook, the rules and, in several places, a compulsory course. Those are the material you are actually tested on and they are the authority. This site is a way to practise alongside them, not instead of them. Where this site and your agency disagree, the agency is right and this site is wrong, and telling us through the contact page is the fastest way to get it fixed.

No outcome is guaranteed

Practising here does not guarantee that you will pass anything. Nobody can measure whether practice on a website changed a test result, so no page on this site claims that it did. The questions outside New South Wales are original practice questions written here rather than the agency bank, so scoring well on them is not the same as scoring well on the real test.

The information can be out of date, and is offered as it is

Road rules, fees, pass marks and required hours change, and an agency can change one the day after a page here was checked. Every figure names its source and the date it was read, and every page carries a review date, which is the honest way to show how current something is rather than a promise that it is current. The site is offered as it is, without warranty, and you use it at your own discretion. Check anything that matters against your agency before you rely on it.

Nothing here is legal advice. If a road rule or a licensing decision affects you personally, the agency, or a lawyer, is who to ask.

The content, and reusing it

The New South Wales questions come from the Transport for NSW Driver Knowledge Test and Rider Knowledge Test question banks, used under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, CC BY 4.0, attributed to the State of New South Wales (Transport for NSW). You can reuse those on the same terms, from the same source. Everything else on this site, meaning the original questions for the other seven jurisdictions, the written guides, the sign artwork, the diagrams and the code, was made here and stays ours. If you want to reuse any of it, ask through the contact page. The answer is usually yes with an attribution.

Links to other sites

Pages here link out to agency pages, published datasets and other sources so that a figure can be checked. Those sites are not controlled by us and we are not responsible for what is on them.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version replaces this one on this page and the review date above moves with it. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the signal.

The short version

Free to use, independent, and not official. Study the handbook your agency publishes, practise here, and treat the agency as the authority wherever the two disagree.
