Transport for NSW publishes the Rider Knowledge Test bank in full, so every question on this page is the agency's own wording rather than a rewrite of it. The sitting runs 45 questions in two sections, 15 general knowledge needing 12 correct and 30 road safety needing 29, and the simulator in the ladder scores each section on its own the way the sitting does. The New South Wales rules a rider is tested on include a 90 km/h learner cap, filtering reserved for fully licensed riders under 30 km/h, and a 12 month learner licence.
Where these questions come from
Transport for NSW publishes the Rider Knowledge Test question bank in full under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, CC BY 4.0, attributed to the State of New South Wales (Transport for NSW). All 316 questions are on this site. 144 of them are built around a picture, and the artwork sits outside that licence and has not been drawn here yet, so they are held out of every run. With the three integrity questions held out as well, that leaves 147 questions out of the draw and 169 in it. The published file is the one these were parsed from.
The road sign questions alongside them, and the sign artwork with them, were written and drawn for this site rather than taken from an official file.

Filtering within the New South Wales limits
New South Wales reserves lane filtering for fully licensed riders. The motorcycle must stay under 30 km/h, and the vehicles around it must be stopped or travelling below 30 km/h. Both speeds matter. A rider cannot treat slow traffic alone as permission to pass between lanes at any pace.
The permission stops beside a kerb, beside parked vehicles and throughout school zones. All other road rules continue to apply while filtering. At traffic lights, that includes stopping before the stop line rather than moving beyond it to find space. These boundaries make the road position and the surrounding traffic just as relevant as the motorcycle's speed.
The 90 km/h learner setting
Speed. A learner rider must not exceed 90 km/h. It is the highest learner rider cap of the eight jurisdictions.
Passengers and alcohol. A pillion passenger is not permitted, and the rider must keep a zero blood alcohol concentration.
Display and motorcycle. The L plate belongs on the rear. The motorcycle must be one approved for novice riders.
Licence period. A New South Wales learner rider licence is valid for 12 months.
Pre-learner course. In serviced areas, the required course takes 7 hours across 2 days for motorcycles and three wheeled scooters, or 6 hours in one day for trikes.
The Transport for NSW approved motorcycle list
Transport for NSW publishes the motorcycles approved for novice riders. That list has significance beyond the state: Western Australia and the Northern Territory direct their riders to the same New South Wales list. A learner choosing a motorcycle should therefore check the published approval rather than relying only on a capacity or power description.
Prepare for the Rider Knowledge Test structure
New South Wales is the only jurisdiction whose rider test format has been checked against the agency. The Rider Knowledge Test contains 45 questions in two sections. General knowledge comes first, with 12 correct answers required from 15. Road safety follows, with 29 required from 30. Both sections must be passed.
Practise the two sections as separate thresholds. The road safety section allows only one missed answer, while the general knowledge section allows three. Keep filtering answers tied to the fully licensed status, the two under-30 km/h conditions and the location bans, then keep learner answers tied to the 90 km/h cap and the 12-month licence period.
