WA theory test parking and stopping practice questions
All 9 original practice questions on this topic, with the correct answer marked and the reason under each one.
Where these questions come from
Original practice questions written for this site. Not the official question bank. They were written against the current Western Australia road rules, with the rule cited under every answer. Department of Transport does not publish the WA theory test question bank, so nothing on this page is the wording you will meet in the sitting.
How the WA theory test runs: 30 questions with 24 correct to pass, charged for each sitting. Source: Department of Transport, checked 27 August 2026.
Question 1
How close to an intersection without traffic lights may you park?
Parking too close to an intersection blocks the view for drivers turning in and out. Ten metres is measured from the nearest kerb line of the cross street.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 2
How close to an intersection controlled by traffic lights may you park?
Signalised intersections need more clear space so drivers can see the signals and turning traffic. The distance is greater than at an unsignalised intersection.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 3
You are parking facing downhill next to a kerb. What should you do with the front wheels?
If the car rolls, the wheels steer it into the kerb instead of into traffic. Always set the park brake and leave the car in gear or in park.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 4
You want to stop on a road that has a continuous dividing line. What must you check?
Other drivers cannot legally cross a continuous line to get past you. The three metre gap leaves them enough room to pass safely.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 5
How close to a fire hydrant may you park?
Firefighters need clear access to a hydrant at any hour. Keep at least one metre clear on either side.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 6
What does a NO STOPPING sign mean?
No stopping means exactly that. These signs usually mark places where a stopped car would block sight lines or traffic flow.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 7
What does a NO PARKING sign allow you to do?
No parking still allows a very short stop to drop someone off, provided you stay within two minutes and stay near your vehicle.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 8
How must you park when you stop parallel to the kerb on a two way road?
Parking against the flow means driving on the wrong side of the road to get there and to leave. Keep the car parallel and close to the kerb.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
Question 9
You have parked at the kerb and are about to open your door. What must you do?
An opening door gives a passing rider or driver no time to react. Causing danger with a door is an offence as well as a common cause of injury.
Rule cited: Drive Safe handbook (WA Department of Transport), Parking
