Question 1

You are about to enter a roundabout. Who must you give way to?

• Only vehicles entering from the road on your right
• Only vehicles that are signalling

The basic roundabout rule is to give way to traffic already circulating. Slow on approach so you can stop if a gap does not appear.

Question 2

You are driving around a roundabout and your exit is next. What signal should you give?

• No signal, because you are already committed to the roundabout
• A right signal until you have left the roundabout
• Hazard lights, to warn drivers behind you

You signal left to show you are leaving, then cancel the signal once you are out. On very small roundabouts there may not be time, and then the rule does not apply.

You are turning left at a multi lane roundabout. Which lane and signal should you use on approach?

For a left turn you approach in the left lane, signal left on approach, and keep the left signal on as you leave.

You are turning right at a multi lane roundabout with no arrows painted on the road. What should you normally do?

• Approach in the left lane and signal right

Straight ahead needs no approach signal. You still signal left before your exit so following drivers know you are leaving.

How fast should you be travelling as you approach a roundabout?
