Question 1
The traffic light changes to yellow as you approach and you can stop safely before the line. What must you do?
Yellow means stop unless you are so close that pulling up would be unsafe.
Rule cited: Australian Road Rules r 57, as adopted in Queensland
Question 2
You are facing a red traffic light with a red arrow pointing right. What may you do?
A red arrow forbids the movement it points to, regardless of what other lights at the intersection are showing.
Rule cited: Australian Road Rules r 56, as adopted in Queensland
Question 3
What does a white sign with a red circle and a red diagonal line through a symbol mean?
A red circle with a diagonal line bans the action shown, such as no right turn or no U turn.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: road signs
Question 4
You see a yellow diamond sign with a picture of a curve. What is it telling you?
Yellow diamond signs are warnings. Any speed shown with them is an advisory safe speed for the feature ahead.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: road signs
Question 5
The traffic lights at a busy intersection are completely blacked out. How should you treat the intersection?
Treat a dead signal as an uncontrolled intersection. Approach slowly, make eye contact where you can and never assume the other driver will stop.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: traffic lights
Question 6
What do double continuous centre lines mean?
Double continuous lines separate opposing traffic where sight distance is short. Crossing them to overtake is not permitted.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: road markings
Question 7
What does a green traffic light mean?
Green is permission, not priority over everything. You still give way to pedestrians you are turning across and to anyone still clearing the intersection.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: traffic lights
Question 8
You are facing a red traffic light with a green arrow pointing left. What may you do?
A green arrow allows only the movement it points to. The red still applies to every other direction at that intersection.
Rule cited: Australian Road Rules r 56, as adopted in Queensland
Question 9
The centre of the road is marked with one continuous line beside one broken line. When may you cross it to overtake?
The line closest to you decides. Broken on your side means you may cross when it is safe; continuous on your side means you may not.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: road markings
Question 10
You are stopping for a red light at an intersection with a painted stop line. Where must the front of your vehicle stop?
Stopping past the line puts you in the path of turning traffic and over the sensors and pedestrian space at the corner.
Rule cited: Australian Road Rules r 56, as adopted in Queensland
Question 11
What does a white rectangular sign with black lettering, such as one showing a speed number or a turn restriction, tell you?
White and black signs are regulatory. Yellow diamonds warn, and blue signs point to services and facilities.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: road signs
