QLD PrepL night and weather driving practice questions
All 3 original practice questions on this topic, with the correct answer marked and the reason under each one.
Where these questions come from
Original practice questions written for this site. Not the official question bank. They were written against the current Queensland road rules, with the rule cited under every answer. Department of Transport and Main Roads does not publish the QLD PrepL question bank, so nothing on this page is the wording you will meet in the sitting.
How the QLD PrepL final assessment runs: 30 questions at the end of the PrepL course, with 27 correct to pass. Three wrong answers across the lot. Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads, checked 27 August 2026.
Question 1
When must you dip your high beam headlights?
High beam within that distance dazzles the other driver, including through their mirrors when you are behind them.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: headlights and high beam
Question 2
An oncoming driver leaves their high beam on and you are dazzled. What should you do?
Using the left line as a guide keeps you in your lane while your eyes recover. Answering with your own high beam blinds you both.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: night driving
Question 3
You come to a section of road covered by floodwater and you cannot see the surface underneath. What should you do?
Floodwater hides washed out road and moves cars in surprisingly shallow depths. There is no safe way to judge it from behind the wheel.
Rule cited: Your Keys to Driving in Queensland handbook, topic: driving in poor conditions
